Our story
Spinning Sheep Designs — Birdsboro, PA
Spinning Sheep Designs started the way so many creative businesses do — with way too much yarn and not quite enough people to make things for.
But the real beginning goes back much further than that. I can still remember going to my first yarn store as a young girl, walking through the door of a Philadelphia shop hand-in-hand with my maternal grandmother. We weren’t just there to browse — we were there to pick out my own ball of yarn. Up until that moment, I’d been learning the basics of knit and crochet using her leftover scraps. Having her believe in my work enough to buy me my own tools? That felt like everything.
“I still have some of her yarn, needles, and hooks — a reminder of everything she taught me.”
My paternal grandmother gave me a different kind of gift. I remember sitting down for the first time at her sewing machine, her patient hands guiding mine. She taught me to cut fabric from a pattern, to pin it carefully, and to keep a steady foot on the pedal — not too fast! The shorts and top I made that day didn’t last long, but the skills have lasted a lifetime.
These days, when it’s so easy to grab something made by a machine at any mall or big-box store, I believe more than ever that everyone deserves something handmade. Something unique. Something made with intention and care that makes you feel just a little bit more special when you use it.
That belief is what drives everything I make at Spinning Sheep Designs. Today, I create sublimation-printed kitchen towels, mugs, and throw pillows — each one designed, printed, and finished by me, by hand, right here in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The designs change with the seasons, the holidays, and whatever is bringing joy into kitchens and living rooms right now. But the spirit behind every single item stays the same: I want you to give or receive something that feels genuinely special. My work has even been featured multiple times in Berks County Living magazine — a reminder that handmade still matters.
I feel like I’m carrying my grandmothers’ legacy forward every time I create something new. I hope a little of that love finds its way into your home.
